Philharmonic OrchestraThe Philharmonic Orchestra consists of intermediate level students in grades 9-12 and performs music at the VBODA grade level III and equivalent. This ensemble meets as two separate orchestra class periods during the school day.

Capriccio OrchestraThe Capriccio Orchestra consists of advanced level students in grades 9-12 and performs music at the VBODA grade level IV and equivalent.

Five Star StringsThe Five Star Strings consists of advanced level students in grades 9-12 and performs music at the VBODA grade level of IV-V and equivalent. This ensemble is the highest level for 9th grade members.

Statesmen SinfoniaThe Statesmen Sinfonia is the premiere performing orchestra of the school. Sinfonia consists of exceptionally advanced level players in grade 10-12. This ensemble performs music at the VBODA grade level V-VI and professional level repertoire.

Meet the Director - Catherine Bond
Catherine Bond (formerly Prosser) began directing the orchestras at Marshall High School in 2009, and has enjoyed every minute of working with the students and seeing the program develop. She is eager to return to Marshall in the fall of 2024 from a yearlong leave of absence. She is especially excited that the GCM Orchestras have grown to its highest enrollment ever - 138 members - with five orchestra classes now being offered! Previous to Marshall, Mrs. Bond taught strings at Cherry Run and Sangster Elementary Schools (2007-2009) and was the orchestra director at Glasgow Middle School (2003-2007).
Mrs. Bond earned a BM in Music Education from James Madison University (2002), and a MM in Music Education from George Mason University (2009), where she studied conducting with Anthony Maiello. A violinist, Mrs. Bond has performed with The Dolce Quartet, the Fairfax Chamber Players, The American Festival Pops Orchestra, the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic, and the Friends and Family Chamber Orchestra. She has also served on faculty at various summer camps in the Northern Virginia region including the GMU Ovations Summer Strings Academy, Vienna Summer Strings, Stallion Summer Strings, and the Levine Summer Camp. She was named the 2022 Virginia Orchestra Director of the Year by the Virginia Chapter of the American String Teachers Association.
Mrs. Bond resides in Ashburn with her husband Will, and her children Nolan & Sophia. In her free time, she enjoys listening to any and all types of live music, reading, and spending time with her family.
